Faceted Curriculum Project/About Threads

A thread is a collection of blocks, linked according to the desires of a specific audience. There will be many types of threads.

Creating a new thread type

A new thread should be created as a subcategory of "FCP Thread". When creating a new thread, the following questions should be addressed and written in the subcategory description page:

  1. Are threads of this type meant to be linear or nonlinear?
  2. What criteria will be used to determine the inclusion of a block in the thread? In other words, which topics are to be covered in this thread?
  3. What criteria will be used to join blocks in the thread? Why should one block come before another (for example, based on logical or pedagogical dependence)?

Creating a thread

When creating a thread (of a given type), some summary information should be given. This should include:

  1. The purpose of the thread. For example, a thread might be designed as a curriculum for an Algebra II course, or a thread might be designed to get from basic principles in geometry to the Pythagorean theorem in the fastest way possible.
  2. The intended audience and prerequisites for following the thread.

The thread itself should be represented as a directed graph, whose nodes are blocks. More research is needed, in order to represent threads using semantic mediawiki software.
