Please see the documentation of Semantic MediaWiki for the semantic features and the MediaWiki cheat sheet and some examples for general editing. You can also print a reference card.
Best Practices
From time to time, this list is enhanced. New items are added at the top.
Marking edits as "minor"
If you just fixed a spelling mistake, linked a word, or reformatted a section, please mark your edit as "minor" by checking the corresponding box below the editing form. You can also configure that all edits should be set minor by default by checking "My Preferences/Editing/Mark all edits as minor by default".
The reason is that people subscribing to the "recent changes" feed (as described on the Main Page) should not be bothered by housekeeping edits that do not change the meaning of the content.
Saying welcome to a new user
If you notice a new user who contributes to this wiki, welcome him on his talk page! He will automatically be notified when he logs into the wiki next. You can use this template:
~~~~
Adding your own project
To add a short description of your project in the field of mathematics on the web to this wiki, you can create a new page and paste the following template into it:
MyProject is a ...
Resources
* http://www.myproject.org
For certain specific types of projects there are special macro-like templates, e.g. for Formula editors (see the template)
See also the projects we already have documented. –Clange 20:50, 24 March 2007 (CET), revised 16:11, 22 August 2008 (UTC)
Linking to other wikis
“Interwiki” links to many other wikis can be created using a prefix for the respective wiki, followed by the page name:
prefix:Page Name Caption
Some of the supported prefixes are:
| Prefix | Wiki | Description |
|---|---|---|
| asteroidmeta | AsteroidMeta | PlanetMath, Metamath and related projects |
| ontoworld | Ontoworld.org | Semantic Web/Semantic Wiki community |
| planetmath | PlanetMath | free math encyclopedia |
| activemath | ActiveMath | ActiveMath, math learning on the web |
| w | Wikipedia (English) | free encyclopedia |
| wpde | Wikipedia (German) | free encyclopedia |
| eecs | Electrical Engineering and Computer Science | … at Jacobs University Bremen |
| meta | Wikimedia Meta-Wiki | about Wikimedia and MediaWiki-related projects |
See Special:Interwiki for a list of all supported extensions, and ask me to request additional ones to be set up. –Clange 15:32, 22 March 2007 (CET)
Watching pages
To stay informed about changes without always revisiting “recent changes”, you can maintain a watch list if you're logged in. To put a page on your watch list, select “watch” above the heading when viewing the page or “watch this page” when editing. Go to “my preferences” → “E-mail” to configure mail notification. --Clange 13:17, 9 February 2007 (CET)
Crash Course
- Create new pages by linking to them from existing ones and then following the link.
- Learn through copy/paste/modify
- Re-use existing categories, relations (i.e. link types) and attributes!
| What it looks like | What you type |
|---|---|
| italic | italic |
| bold | bold |
Section | == Section == |
Subsection | === Subsection === |
